Tomás Marco wrote Tenorio just for Garcia after his great performance in another opera of his, El Caballero de la Triste Figura, based on El Quijote.
This is an opera composed between 2008 and 2009 at the request of the X Estío Musical Burgalés that dealed with the myth of Don Juan and that could not be performed then because, when the crisis appeared, the festival was suspended, but that finally has been released 28 of July of 2017 in the Theater-Auditorium of the Escorial being part of the International Summer Festival.
The group of soloists is composed by Alfredo Garcia in the role of Tenorio, the soprano Carmen Gurriarán, who has played the roles of Lucia, Doña Ana and Doña Inés, tenor Juan Antonio Sanabria, responsible for the narrative and the role of Don Luis Mejía. The recovery of Tenorio has been made possible by the BBVA Foundation, which for this purpose has awarded one of its Leonardo Grants to the director who has premiered the opera: Santiago Serrate.
